Diagram Definitions

1. Pyranit Insulator

The most important part of a spark plug. It's made from aluminum oxide and glass additives that allow it to withstand 30,000 volts and temperatures in excess of 1550 degrees. The thermal conductivity of a the insulator in this heat range is critical to the plug's performance under different driving conditions.

2. Current Barrier

These ceramic ribs are designed to provide increased distance between the top terminal stud and the shell case. This reduces the chance of voltage leakage to ground during operation.

3. Shell

Steel is the most common material used for most spark plug shells. The shell and insulator are fused together using an electro-heat shrinking process. Some manufacturers use zinc plating, but our Torque Master plugs are nickel-plated. This prevents rusting over time of the shell and also inhibits seizing in the cylinder head.

4. Electro Seal

A gas and pressure-tight seal at this point prevents "blow-by" of hot combustion gases that could rob your engine of horsepower. Our seals are made of an exclusive mixture of graphitized-metal-glass that maintains constant conductivity at all operating temperature.

5. Insulator Seal

This seal performs the same function as the Electro-Seal. It prevents "blow-by" of combustion gases. It also helps conduct heat from the insulator to the cylinder head. This assures a very consistent heat range.

6. Threads

In order to prevent "cross-threading" in the cylinder head, plug threads should be completely rolled to eliminate sharp edges.

7. Center Electrode

Torque Master plugs have a heavy duty copper core center electrode. As such, the plug reaches its self-cleaning temperature earlier to resist fouling in city traffic. Heat dissipation is also accelerated during highway driving which helps prevent erosion and corrosion.

7. Ground Electro-Ring

The ground-ring and the center electrode combine to form the spark gap. The ground-ring is made from stainless steel that makes it oblivious to high temperature exposure found in combustion. This is the unique material and design combination that gives the Torque Master spark plug its exceptional long life and superior high performance characteristics.
